About

An Engine Whisperer is an engine repairer who adopts a sympathetic view of the motives, needs, and desires of the engine, based on mechanical intuition and modern engine psychology.

The term goes back to the early 2000’s when an Australian car enthusiast, Andrew Handmer, made a name for himself on the internet by rehabilitating engines that had become vicious and intractable due to abuse or accidental trauma.

Andrew kept his methods secret, but people who managed to observe him noticed that he would stand face to face with the troubled engine. They seemed to think that he must be saying something to the engine in a way it could understand and accept because the engines were quickly revived by his mysterious techniques.

All blatant equine parody aside, there is definitely something to be said for a keen sense of mechanical sympathy, and I generally find it’s possible to resurrect troublesome engines and mechanical devices which would otherwise be deemed rebuild or replacement worthy.

I don’t like to see something thrown away when a little bit of work or some lateral thinking could save it, but at the same time I know when it’s time to replace something that will give expensive trouble in the future.

So, if you’re in Sydney (especially on the North side) and have anything mechanical needing attention, give me a call or email for a free quote, or to book in a visit from The Engine Whisperer.
